16-month degree to welcome first students in May 2028

SACKVILLE, NB, 鈥 痳豆TV视频 is reintroducing teacher education with a new Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree to help meet New Brunswick鈥檚 need for qualified teachers. Applications open in October 2027, with the first cohort beginning in May 2028.

The 16-month, four-term degree is for students with an undergraduate degree and offers elementary (Kindergarten鈥揋rade 5) and secondary (Grades 6鈥12) streams. The anticipated first cohort is 70 to 90 students.

鈥淥ur Bachelor of Education builds on Mount Allison鈥檚 excellence to prepare teachers for today鈥檚 classrooms,鈥 says President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ian Sutherland. 鈥淚t is an investment in future educators and the students and communities they will serve.鈥

The renewed post-baccalaureate degree combines small-cohort learning, close faculty mentorship, community partnerships, and extensive classroom experience.  The program has been designed with today鈥檚 classrooms in mind, with areas of study including inclusive education, literacy, Indigenous education, evidence-informed teaching, diverse learner needs, and teacher leadership.

Students will combine coursework and mentorship with three practicum experiences, including a 12-week extended teaching practicum, supported by a mentor teacher and faculty member.

Developed with input from Anglophone East School District (ASD-E), Indigenous education leaders, teachers, faculty, students, and community partners, the degree prepares graduates to pursue New Brunswick Teacher Certification 5, granted by the provincial authority.
